Bucs Still Keen On Wits Midfielder
Orlando Pirates Still Linked With Xola Mlambo
Orlando Pirates are still keen on securing the services of Bidvest Wits’ Xola Mlambo, according to sources in the know.
Since the beginning of the new year, Mlambo has been linked with a potential move to Pirates. The midfielder’s name has been bandied about over a potential swap deal with Pirates’ Abbubaker Mobara during the current transfer window.
It is believed that Wits would be pleased to land Mobara for Coach Gavin Hunt’s team in exchange for Mlambo. However, it seems that the Buccaneers’ utility player is not keen on making a move away from the Soweto giants just yet – making it difficult for the swap deal to be concluded.
According to sources, Bucs are still keen on Mlambo, with a view of adding him to Milutin Sredojevic’s team for the remaining half of the season and beyond.
Mlambo is yet to play an official PSL match for Wits in 2018, or feature in any of Hunt’s matchday squads so far this year. He is said to be keen on leaving the Sturrock Park outfit.
‘Ten Ten’, as the central midfielder is known in football circles, joined Wits in 2016 on a big money move from Chippa United.
The player had been in the PSL for under a season when Wits signed him and had been with Chippa from January 2016 to August of the same year.
Mlambo’s performances for Wits contributed to the club winning the Absa Premiership, MTN8 and Telkom Knockout trophies.
The 26-year-old’s high work-rate and progress have impressed Pirates, with the Soweto giants making attempts to sign him for Sredojevic’s team.
