Bucs Still Keen On Their Target?

Orlando Pirates are believed to still show interest in Jabulani Shongwe, as they did during the transfer window.

The Buccaneers could still land Shongwe in the next transfer window, according to sources in the know. Shongwe was linked with a move to both Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs during the off-season.

However, it was Golden Arrows who succeeded in clinching a deal for the talented player to move him away from Bidvest Wits. While the 27-year-old player is preparing for the season with his new teammates at Abafana Bes’thende, sources have revealed that Pirates will be monitoring his progress at the KwaZulu-Natal outfit with interest.

Sources close to Bucs have told the Siya crew that the club is still interested in Shongwe and that Bucs could make attempts to bring the player on board later in the season.

Depending on the player’s progress this season, Milutin Sredojevic’s side could attempt to sign Shongwe from Arrows in January, or at the end of the season.

Kaizer Chiefs have denied reports that they attempted to sign Leonardo Castro from Mamelodi Sundowns before the transfer window closed last week Thursday. According to the club's communications manager Vina Maphosa, Castro was never on their radar, although reports state otherwise. "We never wanted to sign Castro. I have a list of players who were signed. There are those that I know we were targeting, but Castro was not one of them," Maphosa told Isolezwe. A source close to the publication revealed that football manager Bobby Motaung is the one who was serious about luring the 29-year-old to Naturena, but said the Soweto giants pulled out of the deal after Sundowns named their price for the lanky marksman. "Bobby is the one who really wanted Castro. Sundowns were willing to release him, but Chiefs were afraid to pay. Castro was registered with the PSL on the final day," the source said. Meanwhile, Sundowns media officer Thulani Thuswa refused to be drawn into whether or not Chiefs were after the services of Castro, saying the fact that the South American frontman is currently in camp with the club, simply means that he's still happy at Chloorkop. "Castro is a Sundowns player. Let's please stick to that because the fact that he's here, it means that he's still happy at Sundowns," Thuswa said. Chiefs confirmed last week that they will not rest until their find a quality striker to reinforce their striking department this season. The Glamour Boys parted ways with no less than four strikers at the end of last season, including Camaldine Abraw, Siphelele Mthembu and Lewis Macha among others.

Orlando Pirates wanted to sign Sundowns trio Mogakolodi Ngele, Khama Billiat and Leonardo Castro The Buccaneers were said to be keen to raid the Brazilians after selling Oupa Manyisa to their PSL rivals Orlando Pirates ' late bid for Mamelodi Sundowns forward Mogakolodi Ngele was reportedly rejected by the Tshwane giants. According to The Citizen, Pirates submitted a bid for the Botswana international as they looked to strengthen their striking department. However, the 2016 Caf Champions League winners reportedly rejected it on the PSL Transfer Window deadline day last week. “Sundowns didn’t accept their offers," the source said on the publication. The source also revealed that Pirates are likely to make another move for Ngele during the next PSL Transfer Window in January, 2018. "I hear they even tried to get him on loan but could not reach an agreement before the transfer window closed," the source continued. "They could try again in January if they still need him,” the source concluded. Pirates are said to have also made offers for Sundowns forwards Khama Billiat and Leonardo Castro, but they were turned down by the Brazilians. Zimbabwean playmaker Billiat's current contract with Sundowns is due to expire at the end of this season and the club could sell him in January, 2018. Colombian striker Castro, who was the subject of a rejected bid from Kaizer Chiefs last week, is reportedly unsettled at Sundowns.
