What Jali’s Return Could Mean For Pirates

Orlando Pirates midfielders could be affected by the possible return of Andile Jali

By Soccer Laduma - May 03, 2018 01:14 PM

Soccer Laduma has reported that Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates have opened talks with Bafana Bafana international Andile Jali in the hope of bringing the 28-year-old back to their ranks.

Sources have further revealed that the Buccaneers remain in pole position to acquire the midfielder’s signature after he parted ways with Belgium outfit, KV Oostende last month.

During his four year stay at Pirates, Jali formed a formidable central midfield partnership with Oupa Manyisa that helped guide the Sea Robbers to back-to-back league titles in the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons. His contribution also saw Pirates clinch the 2010 MTN8 title as well as the Nedbank Cup in 2011.

Should Pirates be successful in luring the midfielder, current head coach Milutin Sredojević will have to find a way to include him in what has been a solid midfield pairing between Musa Nyatama and Mpho Makola.

Furthermore, Siya sources have already indicated that the likes of midfield hardmen Issa Sarr and Thamsanqa Sangweni could be among the names of players set to make an exit from the club.

Should Jali become a Buccaneer ahead of the upcoming 2018/19 campaign, this could only result in both Sarr and Sangweni falling even further down the pecking order in what is an already a star-studded midfield.

It is understood that Jali is in no rush to make a decision about where he will be playing his football next season as he is not bound by the July/August transfer window.

Pirates will have to edge out the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns who are also said to be big admirers of the Bafana international, as Jali’s signature won’t come cheap should the Matatiele-born player decide to return to the Absa Premiership.

As a Sea Robber of note...I reckon we do not need Jali anymore because we won the Double Treble with him. Also the way he left us for Europe without saying goodbye, makes him a liability to us...

I dont think it a good idea for Sundowns to take him. We don't want overseas player they are very slow, look at Pienaar he never score a single goal at Wits.

We were led to believe Jali and builders have agreed terms, it was just a matter of when he will join them. Now we are told he is open for bidders.

Mr. Editor, the "Nyatama and Makola" being a "solid pairing" is incorrect. Nyatama and Mlambo combination has been a more consistent one for Pirates. Also, Sangweni and Sarr have been sidelined a long time ago, not because they are not good enough but because they are notbas mobile and efficient as Nyatama and Mlambo. It shouldn't be hard for Pirates to release them should they find better replacements fot them and the rest of other areas in the squad.
