As reported in issue 1026 of Soccer Laduma, a swap deal for Patrick Phungwayo and Thato Thlone could be on the cards, as Orlando Pirates will be expected to make squad changes for the 2017/18 season.
The Buccaneers are believed to have shown interest in Thlone, who excelled with his individual performances for Free State Stars this past season. The Soweto giants are expected to negotiate for the defender’s transfer during the July/August transfer window.
Although the left back signed a pre-contract with Bidvest Wits as confirmed by the Braamfontein outfit in January, sources have confirmed that the player has been identified as a transfer target for Bucs with a likelihood of a possible move for him to the club being discussed during the off-season.
Sources have confirmed to the Siya crew that a move back to Wits for Patrick Phungwayo could be on the cards between the parties, so as for Thlone to move to Pirates at the expiry of his contract with Stars at the end of June.
“With Pirates interested in Thato Thlone to join them from Free State Stars, expect negotiations to take place between Wits and Pirates for the player. Expect Patrick Phungwayo’s name to be thrown in there for a possible move back to Wits in exchange for Thlone moving to Pirates,” said the source.
The 26-year-old Thlone made 24 starts for Stars in their 2016/17 Absa Premiership campaign.
