The Siya crew has been informed that Innocent Maela has an appointment to see a specialist today (Tuesday) for the injury he picked while with Bafana Bafana in the Cosafa Cup.
The defender, who starred for Bucs as their first choice left-back in his first season in the PSL, was withdrawn from Stuart Baxter’s Bafana squad, owing to the injury.
“The player is visiting a specialist today to determine the extent of the injury. But there shouldn’t be any major worries as it doesn’t seem to be a very bad one. He should be fine for the start of the new season,” said the source.

Chippa’s Paseka Mako was called up as Maela’s replacement in the Bafana squad, following a decision by the national team to release the Pirates star.
Maela made 24 starts in the league for Pirates this past season. The 25-year-old was nominated for the Defender of the Season award, which was eventually won by Maritzburg United’s Siyanda Xulu, at the PSL’s awards ceremony last week.
