As reported in edition 1026 of Soccer Laduma, Orlando Pirates are looking to promote young Ricardo Lourenco from the club’s MultiChoice Diski Challenge side to the first team.
Lourenco has grown in leaps and bounds while playing for Bucs’ MDC side. The indication from a source close to the Buccaneers’ camp is that the 21-year-old could be handed a first team chance at the club for the 2017/18 season.
Lourenco captained the young Buccaneers in the MDC this past season and has impressed the club.
Since his arrival at Pirates, the club’s head coach, Kjell Jonevret, has shown that he is a fan of young players and that he would give them a chance in the PSL whenever an opportunity arises.
During Bucs’ last league game of the season, which was against Golden Arrows, the Swedish coach handed young Yusuf Maart a run in the team, while he also had Lindokuhle Mtshali on the bench.
The game against Arrows was Maart’s second appearance in an official game for Pirates. The youngster’s first game was against ABC Motsepe League side EC Bees in the Nedbank Cup Last 32 game in March.
Lourenco could be set to follow in due course for a chance in Bucs’ first team.
