It’s been confirmed to the Siya crew that a Premier Soccer League club and their coach have gone their separate ways.
Free State Stars have appointed Duncan Lechesa to take over the reins from Allan Freese, who had moved to the club in December last year from AmaZulu.
Ea Lla Koto finished fifth in the GladAfrica Championship, four points shy of securing a spot in the promotion play-offs.
“We could have won the league if Allan took over at the start of the season, but instead he got here when we’d had a terrible start to our opening five matches,” Stars boss Rantsi Mokoena explained to the Siya crew.
“If you look at his points ratio since he was with us, it was really impressive and we would have loved to keep him, but rumour has it he got a better offer from Richards Bay, so he chose to leave. Duncan will take over.”
Lechesa is no stranger to the Bethlehem-based outfit having been a player there and held the coaching positions at different levels.
“He knows the club structure very well and we believe in giving him a chance. He is capable in his own right to lead the team next season and we will announce his assistant coach in due course,” Mokoena added.
