Alleged proposed salary cut for newly signed Black Leopards midfielder could lead to him parting ways with the club, according to sources in the know.
As reported in edition 1084 of Soccer Laduma, Chris Matombo is in a contractual dispute with Leopards, with sources indicating that the two parties are not seeing eye-to-eye.
Following his return from Malta where he played for Qormi FC and helped them gain promotion from the First Division to the topflight, Matombo has been signed by Leopards and unveiled as one of the club’s new signings for their return to the PSL after five years of absence from Mzansi’s topflight.
According to sources, Matombo is said to have threatened to leave the Limpopo club due to them allegedly backtracking from the deal they agreed on when he joined.
It is alleged that the club wants to cut the former Kaizer Chiefs youngster’s salary by 50% from the initially agreed amount.
“It’s unfortunate that this thing has got to this point, as it is now in the media. It shouldn’t have gotten to this point. Things involving people’s contracts and salaries should be handled in a better way,” said the source.
“I understand that someone might have gotten too emotional to end up discussing the matter in the media. But, yeah, that’s true, there’s been issues,” concluded the source.
Attempts have been made to get a comment from Leopards regarding the allegations on the 24-year-old player’s contractual matter, however there had been no reply from the club to the Siya crew at the time of publishing the article.
