Promotion-Winning Coach Wanted For New Club

Newly Formed Club Expected To Confirm Staff And Technical Team

By Soccer Laduma - Jul 06, 2017 05:18 PM

The Siya crew has learnt that the promotion-winning coach, Roger Sikhakhane, has been identified for a coaching role at the newly formed Richards Bay FC.

After guiding Thanda to promotion from the NFD to the PSL, Sikhakhane has been left without a job, as Amabhubesi have since been sold to AmaZulu. A new club called Richards Bay FC has been formed to take the place of AmaZulu in the second tier of South African football.

Both AmaZulu and Richards Bay FC will be based in KwaZulu-Natal. Indications from sources in KZN is that Sikhakhane is earmarked for the role of head coach at Richards Bay.

“Roger Sikhakhane is wanted for a coaching role at Richards Bay FC. He has to make up his mind,” a source told the Siya crew.

Having parted ways with Royal Eagles at the end of the past season, Richard Makhoba is believed to be joining the club in a managerial role. Makhoba was the general manager at Eagles.

Makhoba and Sikhakhane are known to be close friends. Makhoba’s phone rang unanswered when the Siya crew called him for a comment.

@setlaboswana Ok no problem ,you must watch SS when they play in the CAF Cup,they dont have ENGEN as a t-shirt sponsor.

@AS, I didn't know that aspect. I was under the impression that once a team sign a technical sponsors it covers all completions.

@setlaboswana :Its simple,Normally what happens is that teams locally get to sign shirt sponsorship for league and cup games in the PSL only, this covers mostly 3 to 5 seasons domestically. CAF competitions are not covered in that kind of agreement, its a a rule per ser but it depends on the club and its partners. So in this instance(Sundowns and Wits) like i said before these teams are sponsored by owners companies which makes it easy for the owners to covers all the related costs including CAF because its advertisement for their brands/products.

@AS, to be honest with you, I was not aware of this jersey aspect you are raising. Can you break it down for me. Are you saying it is possible for a team to have two different technical sponsors depending on whether they play in Continental Competitions?

@setlaboswana :Think about it if iam not mistaken,Sundowns and Wits are the only teams in SA that can play in "Africa" so to speak using the same shirt sponsor as they do when playing their local PSL games, what does that tell you?Its because they are owned by multi-billionaires(Motsepe and Joffe) who can afford to do that based on their financial muscle...........No Soweto team can afford that even with their Vodacom sponsors

@AS, well, let me give them the benefit of the doubt. I hope this is not a scheme of profit making by some Club owners who are disparate to get rich at the expense of football followers.

@setlaboswana :Of course there are many teams without shirt sponsors even in the PSL,A lot of teams in SA are in depth. Some teams in SA are shirt sponsored by their owners like Sundowns,Bidvest and Chippa.

@AS, so they were unable to secure another sponsor? They could only afford to take the team to PSL and nothing further?

@setlaboswana: No i think you are missing the point, its not like they never had money, they used to have money up until they lost the sponsorship by BELL.After that all was coming from the owners pockets.

@AS, this is betrayal to supporters, if they don't have money, why even bother to run a football club in the NFD, they are acting in bad faith. I was under the impression that what happened to Mpumalanga Black Aces supporters was the last of these things, I was even more hopeful when the League refused to approve the proposed sale of Free State Stars last season.

@setlaboswana :They must be feeling bad,i suppose but what can they do if the owner of the team says he doesn't have money and sponsorship to sustain life in the PSL .......That is the reason he sold the club to Amazulu who have better financial muscle than him,its just the same story as MP Black Aces.

@AS, what I am saying is, were those supporters not looking forward to see Thanda Royal Zulu campaigning in the Big League? How do they feel now?

@setlaboswana :No,i would think the supporters will still be the same people because the team was based in Richards Bay originally and the same team has been re-named Richards Bay FC,which is a good name in my opinion other than that Fanakalo name it was called by before..........."Thanda lo Royal kaZulu"........lol
