After signing Abbubaker Mobara, who left Orlando Pirates in June, Cape Town City could be set to make another signing with a player from the Soweto giants.
Following his exit from the Buccaneers, midfielder Mpho Makola has emerged as a potential signing for the Citizens, of who Coach Benni McCarthy is a keen admirer.
Pirates confirmed last week that the club reached an agreement for termination of Makola’s contract after initially placing the 33-year-old Alexandra-born player on the transfer list.

With the player now a free agent, the Siya crew has learnt that interest is pouring in for the free-kick specialist’s services.
However, indications are that it is McCarthy’s side in the Mother City that leads the race to win Makola’s signature. Makola has arrived in Cape Town and appears to be close to concluding a deal with the club.
The attacking midfielder played for City in their friendly match against Chippa United in the Mother City on Friday afternoon and impressed.
“Mpho Makola is in Cape Town and is close to signing with Cape Town City as the club is interested in him. He played for the team in their ffriendly match against Chippa earlier today (Friday) and did well. He impressed the coach and his technical team, as well as the players with his performance. He is likely to sign with the club,” confirmed the source.
Highlands Park and Black Leopards are some of the clubs believed to have shown interest in Makola’s services.
