It sounds like a move away from Mamelodi Sundowns for one its defenders is being hindered by money issues.
Interest In Downs Defender, Money Hindering Move?
As reported in the latest edition of Soccer Laduma, issue 1055, Asavela Mbekile’s exit from Sundowns is being stalled because the player is unwilling to take a salary cut.
The Siya crew understands that Bloemfontein Celtic is the latest PSL club believed to be showing interest in the versatile player. Celtic has joined the likes of Orlando Pirates, Cape Town City and AmaZulu, who have been linked with the player in recent months.
“The stumbling block in a potential move for Asavela Mbekile from Sundowns is money. There are clubs interested in him. Cape Town City is one of the clubs interested in him. But he is on a big salary at Sundowns. He is a good player who uses his versatility very well,” said the source.
At 31, and nearing the end of his contract with Downs, Mbekile is believed to be keen on making a move away from Chloorkop as he is struggling for game-time under Coach Pitso Mosimane at the club.
Mbekile in the last 6 months of his deal with Downs, which will expire in June.
