Micho In Pirates Talks, Expected In SA This Week
Orlando Pirates are in talks with Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojević over the position of head coach, although at this point nothing has been finalised.
The Siya crew reported last week that the Serbian was on the club’s list of suitors if Kjell Jonevret wasn’t in charge for the 2017/18 season, and it seems they have stepped up the chase over the last few days as his imminent exit from the Ugandan national team draws closer.
Jonevret joined the club last season as he made the move over from Sweden, reaching the Nedbank Cup final but overseeing Pirates’ first finish outside the top eight during the PSL era.
Now, according to Siya sources, Pirates are in talks with the Swede’s successor and – as per reports in Uganda – he is expected to jet into South Africa at some stage this week.
The crew have been informed that there are still some discussions to take place before a deal can be finalised, although it does now seem likely that Micho will get a second bite at the cherry after coaching the Buccaneers before between 2006 and 2007.
As things stand, the Carling Black Label Cup this weekend could be Jonevret’s last game in charge at Bucs and should terms be finalised then Micho could be announced as early as next week.
Pirates’ current coach was present at a press conference today however no insight was given with regards to his future at the club.
Micho is currently in Ethiopia with his family and has dismissed all reports as 'speculation' for the time being.
