Former Ajax Cape Town defender, Matthew Rowell, is targeting a move into the top-flight, although Stellenbosch have offered him a new contract.
The 24-year-old played 23 games for his club in 2016/17 as they missed out on promotion the Absa Premiership in the promotional playoffs, and the full back has ambitions of testing himself against the best in the country although is assessing his options after an offer from this current team.
Sean Roberts, who is representing the player, told the Siya crew that there is growing interest in the defender, although he hasn’t made his mind up about what lies ahead at this stage.
Roberts said, “Matthew had a great season with Stellenbosch, and he put in some great performances, even captaining the team on a few occasions. He’s looking forward to finding an opportunity in the PSL and a few teams have enquired. He’s now a free agent which helps matters.”
Rowell left Ajax in 2014, playing for Vasco da Gama before they were taken over and renamed Stellenbosch FC.
