A Maritzburg United midfielder is being monitored by an overseas club as he continues to attract interest for his inspiring performances.
The Siya crew has learnt that Lebohang Maboe has earned himself a suitor in K.V. Oostende – the Belgian club that Andile Jali has been with for more than four years – before returning to South Africa to join Mamelodi Sundowns during this transfer window.
With big Mzansi clubs already been linked with the 23-year-old Maboe, sources in the know have confirmed interest coming in for the player, from Oostende.
“Oostende have expressed interest in Lebohang Maboe’s services but they’re just waiting for the World Cup to finish before they can open talks with his club, Maritzburg United. They’re likely to open discussions with Maritzburg very soon,” said a well-placed source.
Both Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns are believed to be keen on landing the player, following his impressive performances of last season for the Team of Choice.
Contacted for comment, Maboe said, “If anyone is interested in my services, they must speak to Maritzburg as I’m contracted and committed to the club. I will only hear from the club if there’s any interest and then we will take it from there. Whether it is interest from locally or abroad, the club will make a decision that suits them and that’s all I can say.”
After collecting Nedbank Cup’s Most Promising Player and Player of the Tournament awards at this year’s PSL’s end of the season awards, Maboe went on to help Bafana Bafana with his impressive performances to win the COSAFA Cup Plate Final two weeks ago.
