A new contract has been agreed to in principle for Eric Tinkler to continue coaching at Maritzburg United, after he saved the club from relegation this past season.
Having joined the Team of Choice in January on a short-term deal as the club was struggling at the bottom of the log, the former Orlando Pirates, Cape Town City, SuperSport United and Chippa United coach guided the KwaZulu-Natal outfit to safety in Mzansi’s top flight, following the team’s impressive run in the promotion/relegation play-offs.
With the Pietermaritzburg club having already showed their intentions of wanting to keep Tinkler at the helm for a longer stay, indications are that a new two-year contract has been agreed to in principle between the parties.
“Eric Tinkler is set to sign a two-year contract with an option to renew at Maritzburg. It’s likely to be finalised in the coming days,” said the source.
Maritzburg won all four of their matches during the play-offs as Tinkler ensured that the club kept its top-flight status with a 100% record.
