Maritzburg Business Begins After Safety Secured
Maritzburg United are now in the process of finalising their squad for next season after beating the drop, and have moved swiftly on one of their most key players…
Mxolisi Kunene was almost ever-present for the Team of Choice in 2018/19, playing 33 games across all competitions as all three of the club’s coaches – Fadlu Davids, Muhsin Ertugral and Eric Tinkler – all continued to utilise him.
The 27-year-old was due to see his contract in Pietermaritzburg expire at the end of the current season, however it has now been confirmed to the Siya crew that they have exercised an option on him that will keep him there for at least another two years.
Vasili Barbis, the player’s agent, told the crew, “Yeah, it’s true. Maritzburg have exercised a two-year option on Mxolisi, and he’s looking forward to a better 2019/20 campaign after they had to pull off some heroics in the season just gone by.”
Kunene joined Maritzburg in 2017 from Baroka, and will be eager to try and continue to make a name for himself under Tinkler next season as the club aim for a more respectable league position.
