Coach Update As Maritzburg Get The Job Done
After the club completed their safety mission in the Absa Premiership, Maritzburg United are now working to finalise a new contract for head coach, Eric Tinkler.
The Team of Choice beat Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila 2-1 on Saturtday to make it four wins out of four in the Premier Soccer League playoffs, with Mohau Mokate bagging a brace to keep up their 100% record.
Tinkler has done an impressive job in KwaZulu-Natal since coming in to replace Muhsin Ertugral midway through the season, with Maritzburg losing just six of the 16 games that he’s been in charge of and leading them off the bottom of the table and into the playoff position that ultimately saved their top-flight status.
While the Bafana Bafana legend only signed a short-term deal until the end of the campaign when he joined the club earlier in the year, the Siya crew have now been informed that talks are ongoing to extend his stay in Pietermaritzburg after he fulfilled his ambition of keeping them in the league.
According to Siya sources, a new contract for the 48-year-old could be finalised next week as club management look to move quickly in rewarding him for his efforts, though it remains to be seen – at this time – what length of contract is on the table.
