End Of Six Year Stay With Downs For Striker?

A Mamelodi Sundowns striker who is closing in on six years being on the books of the club could be nearing an end of his time at Chloorkop.

With the Siya crew having reported in edition 1091 of Soccer Laduma that Sundowns have a decision to make regarding the future of Cuthbert Malajila, it is said that the Zimbabwean forward could be on his way out of the former African champions, according to sources.

Malajila will be turning 33 next month and the player is nearing the end of his contract with Sundowns. Records of the Siya crew indicate that he signed a four-year contract with an option to renew for another year when he joined Sundowns from Maritzburg United in 2013.

Having spent the 2016/17 season on loan with Bidvest Wits, after struggling for game-time at the Brazilians, Malajila appears to be no longer in the plans for coach Pitso Mosimane’s team.

“Cuthbert Malajila could be on his way out of Sundowns in January. He could have left the club in the last transfer window but he was kept because the team was still in the Champions League and he was seen as an option to strengthen the team for the competition. By the time the team was knocked out of the Champions League, it was already too late to transfer him. The thing is that he can’t be signed by just any club but by the big clubs because of the package he is on,” said the source.

Malajila has not featured in any of Downs’ matchday squads so far in the 2018/19 season.
