One of Mamelodi Sundowns’ utility players has been ruled out for several months after sustaining an injury to his foot.

Mzikayise Mashaba, who has been linked with an exit from the Chloorkop-based club, is set to spend up to six months out on the sidelines after Siya sources revealed that the player sustained an injury to his foot.

As reported previously by the Siya crew, Mashaba’s name was mentioned among the many players linked with a possible departure from Masandawana. However, as things stand, Mashaba, who was recently linked with both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, will remain with the Brazilians and see out his contract which is set to expire on June 30, 2018.

The player has fallen down the pecking order at the club and indications are that Mashaba is set to prepare for life away from the Chlookop come next year, January, when he will be able to sign pre-contract elsewhere and leave on a free at the end of his deal.

However, this latest injury will keep him out of action for quite some time and it remains to be seen what the next step in his professional football career would entail once he recovers, or whether Sundowns will look to keep the player on their books beyond the current 2017/18 campaign.

Pitso willing to spend big on teen talent Posted: 6 September 2017 Time: 02:22 pm Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says there is a 19-year-old in the PSL that he would pay “top dollar” for. READ: Pitso - Rivaldo's a solid investment Mosimane did not want to name the player, but suggestions are that he is talking about 19-year-old Bidvest Wits attacker Phakamani Mahlambi. READ: Mosimane challenges Billiat The African champions are said to have enquired about Mahlambi on the final day of the transfer window last week. The Clever Boys, however, were unwilling to sell the player. Even though Sundowns did well to sign top players such as Oupa Manyisa, Rivaldo Coetzee and George Lebese, Mosimane said there are players he missed out on during the transfer window. One of those, it seems, was Mahlambi who recently had a trial in Portugal with Bongani Zungu’s former club Vitoria Guimaraes. Sundowns were ready to break the bank to sign the player, just as they did with Coetzee, who is said to have cost the seven-time league champions over R10 million. “There are a lot of players we want and if it’s an 18-year-old or a 20-year-old, [we] don’t waste time. I missed another one who is below 21 and I would have paid top dollar. Almost,” Mosimane said. “I won’t say his name, [but] I would pay top dollar. [He is] 19 years. [He has] speed, goals, [Ousmane] Dembele … you pay.” Mosimane says he would still need to work on the youngster to make him a complete player. “Okay I’d need one or two years to polish him, but when he’s shining he is bright. Khama [Billiat] came here raw. Same as Percy [Tau], I have to work on him. We have to be patient with [Motjeka] Madisha. Those are the ones. You can never go wrong.” Some of the other players Sundowns missed out on during the transfer window are Aubrey Ngoma and Lebogang Manyama, who has moved to Turkey.

The Buccaneers are said to have made another offer for Ngele on Thursday afternoon in a bid to reel in another top signing before the transfer window closed. “Sundowns didn’t accept their offers. I hear they even tried to get him on loan but could not reach an agreement before the transfer window closed. They could try again in January if they still need him,” said the source. Other players the source claimed Pirates wanted from Sundowns included want-away midfielder Khama Billiat and Leonardo Castro
