Mamelodi Sundowns & Percy Tau Have Commented On His Future

Mamelodi Sundowns issued a statement on Percy Tau’s future today after reports surfaced in the media, and the player himself has also hit back.

It had been suggested that Masandawana were standing in the player’s way with regards to a move overseas following an award-winning season in the Absa Premiership, with English side, Brighton & Hove Albion said to be interested in signing him.

While a move to England could be difficult due to the strict work permit rules, the Sunday Times say that Brighton have submitted numerous offers for the talented 24-year-old.

The club refuted that in their statement though, saying, “Mamelodi Sundowns have stated on numerous occasions over the past 18 months that it is committed to ensuring that Percy Tau plays and pursues his career in Europe.

“We have been saddened by misrepresentations and false statements in the media concerning discussions for Percy Tau to play in Europe.

“Mamelodi Sundowns will not engage and discuss in public and with the media, the confidential negotiations that are currently underway with several interested European clubs for Percy Tau to play in Europe.”

Shortly afterwards, Tau posted on his Instagram stories a message that simply stated ‘By the way, there’s no false statements’. He has since deleted the post.

The Siya crew will continue to monitor Tau's situation as it becomes clearer as to whether he will still be in Sundowns colours next season or not, although Siya sources have suggested that he isn't present with the team in Rustenburg as they prepare for their trip to Togo next month.

Honestly!! Football is full of surprises. Last month they said Billiat is going to Belgium, today Billiat is enjoying his life in Naturena. Last week they said Tau is going to England, yesterday Tau was spotted at Naturena gates along with his agent. Eishhhh!!! Football can be cruel sometimes. Honestly!!

@setlaboswana Thulani Thuswa says the club gave him time off for personal reasons... Let's wait and see how this one unfolds, personally I don't see Tau leaving SA shores.

@setlaboswana downs have name their price and this english dd the good thing by going back to the agent telling her that downs stick to their price, she was supposed to go back to sundowns than going to the media and poisoning the boy. Sundowns have a binding contract with tau he has to obey that

@DopeZN, @blackmeteor, rubbishing Downs on various media platforms and going on strike may make things difficult for Tau, I also think he is ill-advised. It should be borne in mind that Downs have the capacity to destroy his career over a season and I don't wish that to happen to the boy. The club may allow him to stay away while paying his salary for the remainder of his contract, by the time his contract expires, he would be rusty. If I were him, I would be very cautious in my approach to the issues at hand.

@setlaboswana I hope they find a way to resolve this issue without destroying the boy, we all Downs is bigger than him. But I hope they be a bigger man grant him his wishes since we've heard one of the teams has matched his asking price.

@blackmeteor, they make these commitments time and again, you hear them saying they will not stand in their players' way should the opportunity present itself. When the opportunity present itself, they sing a different tune.

@setlaboswana You are technically correct, but Downs have also (yellow)painted themselves into a corner by stating in the media that they are "committed to ensuring that Percy Tau plays and pursues his career in Europe."...........so we shall see.

@DopeZN, eish! We have been here before mate. If they happen to release him, it will be the first time. But if you were to ask me whether or not they will release him? I would say I don't see that happening, I think they would like to send a massage to other players that going on strike is not the way to go.

@JackKhosi You are spot-on ....for Tau's sake I still hope he gets a decent deal overseas, but he should've moved earlier(24's middle-aged in modern soccer), so maybe we will get him after all and who knows he can become an Amokhosi legend........

@khosiological Mshishi signed his extension without consulting his agent and apparently it's a dead end contract, he won't move unless they have no use for him.

@setlaboswana lol ay no champ that will intimidate the boy, he has said what he feels on Instagram, even though he quickly deleted it. They should sell the boy otherwise they risk the same fate as Billiat or even Dolly situation.

Percy cn go yes but that boy is still avarage especially if he is heading to Barclays premiership . Billiat is more matured for overseas role but like his poor brothers in Katsande n Nengomasha he decided to stay in SA without checking the status of his influencers , anyway decision making has always bn a problem for Zimbabweans who performs well in SA who knows may the European stage is just too tough for them so they better go and die for peanuts in SA
