Mamelodi Sundowns Looking To Conclude A New Deal For Defender
Mamelodi Sundowns are currently in contract talks with one of their defenders, with the club looking to secure the player’s services on an extended deal before he reaches the final six months of his contract.
The current deal between veteran defender, Thabo Nthethe and Masandawana is set to come to an end next year, June 30, however, the Brazilians are looking to hold onto the centre back’s services beyond the current 2017/18 campaign.
Siya sources close to the club revealed that Sundowns are currently in talks with Nthethe’s camp, with a new deal expected to be confirmed by the club in the coming weeks or months.
The 33-year-old has been a key player for Head Coach Pitso Mosimane when put up to the task and was instrumental in their CAF Champions League winning campaign.
Nthethe made 12 appearances to help the Brazilians lift the CAF Champions League trophy at the time and despite the veteran defender now falling down the pecking order in the centre back position, indications are that Head Coach Mosimane still views the player to be integral to the depth and experience of his squad.
In addition, Ricardo Nascimento is being linked with an exit from the Chloorkop-based club, leaving Sundowns with just Nthethe, Rivaldo Coetzee, Soumahoro Bangaly and Wayne Arendse on their books in the centre back position.
Now, it remains to be seen whether the club will be making any contract announcements in the coming weeks, as the likes of Leonardo Castro and Khama Billiat are also in the final year of their contracts at the club.
