Billiat’s Saudi Deal Off The Table

Saudi Arabian side, Al-Nassr, are believed to have pulled the plug on their attempts to sign Mamelodi Sundowns’ Khama Billiat after they received no response from Masandawana.

Reports last month stated that the Saudi club were offering a hefty sum to Sundowns as they tried to lure the Zimbabwean away from Chloorkop, however the figure didn’t match the player’s buyout clause of €2.5m (around R39m).

Billiat’s talks with Sundowns regarding a new contract – his current one expires next season – have stalled as the club look to try and keep him at the club, and as things stand he will be able to open up talks with any interest parties on January 1st when he enters into the last six months of his deal.

According to Siya sources, the main issue regarding the new contract is – as previously reported – the buyout clause. Billiat is seeking a substantially lower clause as he has one eye on moving to Europe, although Sundowns aren’t willing to accommodate that.

The Siya crew have been informed that, not only can they not agree on the financial package at this stage, but ‘Downs want to give the 26-year-old a straight five-year deal with no buyout clause at all.

At this point it looks unlikely that Billiat will commit his future to the Brazilians despite his success there, and he could be donning the colours of a different club in 2018.

The crew did look to contact the player’s agent, Siyabulela Loyilane, however she was unwilling to comment on Billiat's current situation.
