Downs Track Ugandan Striker
Mamelodi Sundowns Keen On Ugandan Striker
Mamelodi Sundowns are eyeing a young striker from Uganda, with a view to signing him for coach Pitso Mosimane’s team, should there be an opportunity for a deal.
News reaching the Siya crew is that Sundowns have been impressed with Muhammad Shaban’s performances for Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), and from Uganda’s junior national teams.
The forward was the top goalscorer at the COSAFA U-20 Championship in Zambia late last year.
“Muhammad Shaban is keen on a move to South Africa with one of the clubs in the PSL. He is a young striker, who has been scoring goals for his club in Uganda. Sundowns is showing interest in him,” said the source.
Last year, the 21-year-old had a trial with SuperSport United. The player was reportedly quoted in Uganda as saying that Matsatsantsa wanted to sign him and loan him to one of the clubs in the NFD.
Current Orlando Pirates coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic had the player in his plans for the Uganda senior national team, during the Serbian mentor’s time with the team.
