Mamelodi Sundowns have made their intentions clear about bringing Maritzburg United midfielder Deolin Mekoa to the club.
As reported in issue number 1013 of Soccer Laduma, Sundowns have not given up on their interest in bringing the Bafana Bafana international to Chloorkop, despite a move for the player falling through on the final day of the transfer window in August last year.
Sundowns’ were on the brink of signing Mekoa prior to the start of the season, however, during the final hours on August 31, the proposed swap deal, which involved the midfielder and Kwanda Mngonyama, fell through.
Maritzburg were able to acquire the signing of Mngonyama on a permanent basis despite Sundowns not getting their man at the time.
As reported last year, Sundowns had the chance to enter into talks with Maritzburg for Mekoa in the January transfer window this year, however, indications are that the club opted to hold off on negotiations and deal with the transfer saga involving former Sundowns player, Keagan Dolly and his representatives.
It has since been confirmed by a source within the Sundowns’ structures that the club has intensified their interest in bringing Mekoa on board for the upcoming 2017/18 campaign.
“Yes, we do want him and there is talk of bringing him to the club,” said the source at the time.
However, Sundowns are not the only PSL club trying to sign the 23-year-old. As reported previously by the Siya crew, SuperSport United have also shown interest in the player and it remains to be seen who will win the race for Mekoa’s signature in the upcoming transfer window.
