Transfer Watch: Sundowns Identify Nthethe’s Replacement?
Mamelodi Sundowns Have Set Their Sights On A Defender To Replace Thabo Nthethe
Mamelodi Sundowns have set their sights on an Orlando Pirates centre back who could serve as a replacement for some of their defenders.
Thabo Nthethe will likely be making his way out of the Chloorkop-based club, when his contract comes to an end on June 30 this year and despite Head Coach Pitso Mosimane not utilising the player this season, the Brazilians will be looking to provide the needed cover for when he departs.
Sources have revealed to the crew that Masandawana are monitoring one of the Pirates’ out-of-favour defenders, Justice Chabalala, with keen interest.
The Brazilians previously acquired the signature of Rivaldo Coetzee, although the 21-year-old is yet to make his official debut in the Ka Bo Yellow colours, after being sidelined by injury.
As previously revealed by Head Coach Mosimane, Coetzee is one of the defenders who was identified as a player for the future at the club and they are in no rush to get him in action.
However, in the meantime, Sundowns have also set their sights on Chabalala, who could come in handy as a long-term replacement to their ageing defenders.
While Nthethe’s time with the Brazilians comes to an end, Wayne Arendse will also be seeing some of his last years with the Brazilians, as the centre back is currently 33-years of age.
Currently on their books are; the outgoing Nthethe, Arendse, Coetzee, Ricardo Nascimento, Bangaly Soumahoro and Motjeka Madisha.
On the other hand, Sundowns’ transfer target, Chabalala is currently facing tough competition for game-time at Pirates after returning from his injury, with the likes of Gladwin Shitolo and Happy Jele all being preferred over the 26-year-old.
According to sources, Sundowns are keen to offer the player more game-time and it remains to be seen whether the Brazilians will look to approach Pirates with an offer for the player in the upcoming July/August transfer window.
