Sundowns Extend Keeper’s Stay
Mamelodi Sundowns Extend Stay Of One Of Their Goalkeepers
Mamelodi Sundowns have extended the stay of one of their goalkeepers, despite the club likely to not offer the player much game-time next season.
Thela Ngobeni, who is currently spending the last months of the season on loan at Free States Stars, recently had his stay with Sundowns extended until the end of the 2018/19 campaign.
The goalkeeper was the first choice shot-stopper for Ea Lla Koto during his loan stint in the 2016/17 campaign, although had to make his return to his parent club, Sundowns, at the end of that particular season.
The player spent the first half of the 2017/18 campaign on Sundowns’ books, unable to salvage any game-time, where it was then decided to send the player back on loan with Stars in the previous January transfer window.
However, upon his return to Ea Lla Koto, the player struggled to make it into the first team and has not made a single league appearance thus far, although, has been utilised in Stars’ previous two Nedbank Cup fixtures.
The Siya crew was informed that despite the player’s challenge for game-time at this point, Sundowns have extended his stay at the Chloorkop-based club, where he will be returning at the end of the current season.
Indications are that with one more year left on his deal, management at the Brazilians might have to consider another loan deal elsewhere for the player unless his chances at first team football with Sundowns could improve.
Another option is the permanent sale of the player, although it remains to be seen whether Stars will want Ngobeni to continue on their books beyond the current 2017/18 campaign.
