There has been talk of Mamelodi Sundowns pursuing another centre-back in the upcoming January transfer window.
The Brazilians recently confirmed a contract extension for their centre-back, Ricardo Nascimento, while having Bangaly Soumahoro, Wayne Arendse, Motjeka Madisha and Rivaldo Coetzee on their books for the current season.
However, Bangaly has not been registered for the Brazilians in the current campaign, as he is still nursing an injury, whereas Coetzee looks to be on the mend following his long-term injury lay-off and is currently turning out for Sundowns’ MultiChoice Diski Challenge side.
Although, it seems that Sundowns may need to add more depth in their defensive department, as Arendse, who turns 34 this year, needs to be managed more efficiently as he ages.
Indications are that Masandawana could be on the lookout for another centre-back and as reported in this week’s edition of Soccer Laduma, Siya sources have indicated that the Brazilians may look to revisit their interest in Eric Mathoho from Kaizer Chiefs.
Mathoho has since fallen out of favour at the Soweto giants and it remains to be seen whether the Tshwane giants will look to possibly approach Chiefs for the towering defender.
