Downs’ Last Throw Of The Dice For Billiat?

Mamelodi Sundowns are pushing for Khama Billiat to extend his stay.

By Soccer Laduma - Dec 23, 2017 09:11 AM

News reaching the Siya crew is that Mamelodi Sundowns are pushing for Khama Billiat to extend his stay with the Chloorkop-based side.

The Zimbabwe international will see his contract with Downs expire at the end of the 2017/18 season and while he has been offered an extension at the club, he has not yet put pen to paper on the new deal.

Downs’ lost 1-0 to Cape Town City in their final game of 2017 and following the league outing, Coach Pitso Mosimane briefly touched on possible player movements at the club, including Billiat.

The coach explained that the decision lies with the 27-year-old, and as it stands, he is yet to confirm where he will be playing in the 2018/19 campaign.

Billiat has been linked with a move abroad since last year, while Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Cape Town City are all keen on adding the player to their roster.

However, according to Siya sources, Downs have made a new offer with the aim of securing his services beyond the current season. It is believed that Billiat nets under R100 000 a month on his current deal, and does not make as much money as the top earners at the club.

It will take a good financial offer for Downs to convince the player to stay. Ramahlwe  Mphahlele left Sundowns to join Chiefs, after he received a better financial package at Naturena, compared to what Downs were offering.

Downs will not want to lose another of their stars to a PSL rival, as was the case with Mphahlele.

We know very well that Soundowns exploits players. They tie you to a long contract with less renumeration which is always difficult for players to change. Khama came from a R35k salary from Ajax and with Downs offering R95k it was a good offer for him then. He has done a great job for them and deserves better

@Daddy1 : which 'gossip media' once claimed Billiat is top earner in the PSL? I never heard about that, even at sundowns I've never heard about Billiat earning more than Modise just to mention one. REMEMBER Billiat was signed from a small team on a 5-year contract he can't jump and be the highest paid player at the club let alone PSL but not to be below 100k because he was very good even then. It's now that he needs to demand an exorbitant salary, he's good, he's not getting any younger. downs must make him a highest paid player in his team or he'll follow Rama even if not to Chiefs but to any team that values him more than his current club. He can't be tied to this team by being told he has won a Champions League or supporters love you , they sing for you even if you lose blah blah blah . He wants money .

@Daddy1 : as for your second reply where you warn me against gossip media! Why are you on soccer laduma? This is very ironic! You have even registered in this gossip media that I must stop relying on ! Maybe you were the only downs fan who didn't believe a gossip that Bvuma of Chiefs was earning 5k published by the same gossip media I must not rely on now because it says an international, champs league holder , Super cup holder , double PSL holder , a household name player is earning less than 100k in the region of lesser known players. Wow !! I'm dumbfounded.

@Daddy, do me a favour and read what you wrote on the 27 Dec 2017 05:51. I don't have a time quote you . Maybe I didn't understand you , you talked about big 3 , signing of a player and more than 100k to beat downs. I felt you don't get the point coz this is not about buying a player but paying him. Your team has no equal when it comes to signing expensive players, put Chiefs aside if you understand the issue put forward by SL. Billiat is tired of being paid less than players who last won a trophy in May 2015 let alone a Champions League. He wants an improved basic salary or he'll do the Rama by refusing to extend the contract. Downs can and must pay this guy what he's worth instead of enslaving him, he has grown, he has matured he can't be promised love by supporters and bonuses not any more.

@HDK 732, For your info, don't rely too much in gossip media; didn't you read somewhere in the papers where Billiat's concern is about the reduction of sign on fee on which Sundowns are asking more when they sell him to European teams?. According to these gossip media, before, Billiat wanted the sign on fee to be reduced so that European teams can get him without paying much. According to these gossip media, Billiat was one of the top earners in the PSL, but suddenly all that has changed again by the same gossip media that sell us their gossip stories. So, there are opposing stories about the same player, and that should give us the incredible of all these allegations reports. There are confidentialites that remain that remain confidential to public, and gossip media will keep guessing and their guessings mostly involve players and teams who are more popular because these gossip papers target those teams/players because they are the ones who readers want to read about, and such making their business a success

@HDK 732. You're still confined in slave mentality kind of deals where teams have the only say in terms of player's sales. We're living in the democratic world where teams and player's representatives and player involved have to decide about their future. Do you think Billiat's representatives and the player himself would have just bow down without his voice?. This is a democratic world and slave mentality is no more. Players have a say about their moves and aren't forced to be sold like fruits in the market. Your comment lacks sense and knowledge in regard to what is happening in this world. For your info, don't just regard everything you read in papers as real real. Media are businesses and they want to sell their stories to make money in order to run without a loss, hence you'll read stories with no facts at all. Haven't read about other publications where they rate Khune as the highest earner? Haven't you read about PSL top earners stories?. Only a dumb can conclude such reports are factual, but anyone who understands some contractual details aren't for public will just look and page on. There are contractual details which are personal and will remain as such, although the media will run their guessing games just to sell their products. Don't let laduma and their hearsay stories conquer your intelligence because you'll turn into laughing stock. Let common sense dictates you and you'll be able to make proper judgements in your life. Don't let hearsay become your foundation in What you say. Don't let anger and hatred rule your decisions.

Billiat is Dolly's friend since Ajax days. I think Billiat above salary issues he wants to follow his friend overseas as playing overseas is professional growth. But for Downs to convince him otherwise they need to drastically improve his salary nothing else or kiss him goodbye to another local team that is prepared to pay him good salary not only singing, being told he has a star or player sharing prize money. He's older than that nonsense now. Sundowns must swallow pride and pay this boy the money they are known to be having. What's holding them? Even Dolly was released after a big fight at Chloorkop !

@Daddy1 : common sense is not always common to most people more especially when they don't understand the gist of the story like you . You're talking about transfer fee (buying players) whereas Soccer Laduma is talking about salary (paying players).
