Mamelodi Sundowns are looking at rekindling their interest in one of Maritzburg United’s centre-backs following Rivaldo Coetzee’s long injury layoff.
It was reported in last year’s July/August transfer window that the Brazilians were keen on securing the services of the Team Of Choice’s Brian Onyango, as they were on the lookout to find Wayne Arendse’s long-term replacement.
Arendse will be turning 34-years-old this year, indicating that he may not have the same pace left in his legs as the years passed by.
Rivaldo Coetzee was believed to be signed as a long-term replacement for the ageing Arendse, although after 10 months of being on the club's books, Coetzee is yet to make an official appearance for Sundowns as he is still busy with rehabilitation.
However, according to sources in the know, Masandawana are looking at revisiting their interest in the 23-year-old centre-back, with indications that should they act on their interest, they could approach Maritzburg for an offer in the upcoming July/August transfer window.
Sundowns have made three new signings ahead of the new season so far, with indications that the club is not yet done bolstering their squad.
It remains to be seen who the Brazilians will be adding to their books in the coming days.
