Bucs Legend Starts New Career In Coaching
Lucky Lekgwathi Begins A New Journey In Coaching
Orlando Pirates legend, Lucky Lekgwathi, is starting a new chapter in his football journey with a career in coaching.
The former Pirates captain, who officially announced his retirement from playing professional football last year, is learning the ropes in coaching at the Augusto Palacios Academy.
The former defender has voluntarily decided to join Palacios in his academy to learn coaching, with a view of nurturing football stars and to achieve success out of the profession in the future.
“Lucky approached me and expressed interest in coaching. I told him that the best way to start a career in coaching is to begin at development level and learn the ropes. He agreed. At the moment he is involved with the technical teams of our U12s, U14s and U15s,” said Palacios.
Contacted for comment, ‘Phinda Mzala’ confirmed that he enjoys working with the youngsters.
“As you know, Palacios is like a father to me. I sat down with him and he told me that he would be keen to help me. He advised me to plan properly and not to be in a hurry. He advised me to start with the young players. He doesn’t want me to be thrown in the deep end.
“I’m busy there with him. I am coaching the U14s and U15s. It’s good to work with someone like him. I have known him since 2002. I understand what he wants and what he doesn’t want. I understand his style of play and things like that,” said Lekgwathi.
