The arrival of Steve Komphela at Bloemfontein Celtic could have an effect on the circumstances of one of the current squad players.
Kaizer Chiefs Lorenzo Gordinho is currently on a one-year loan spell with Siwelele, after falling out of favour under the mentorship of the club’s former coach, Komphela.
The 24-year-old will see his loan stint at the club come to an end in December this year, however, with Celtic set to confirm Komphela’s appointment at the helm following the departure of Veselin Jelusic, there could be questions raised about whether or not Gordinho will be seeing much game-time under Komphela.
Gordinho featured in 14 Absa Premiership encounters for Celtic following his move to the club in January, favoured to play in every fixture, excluding two-matches where he faced a red card suspension.
When the player was still at Chiefs at the start of the season, Gordinho played in just five league encounters before picking up an injury to his ribs, eventually falling out of favour and playing in just one out of six Absa Premiership encounters following his recovery.
Gordinho completed his loan move to Celtic as part of the Kabelo Mahlasela to Chiefs deal and indications were at the time that management at Naturena wanted the player to get more game-time elsewhere, as he was no longer a regular under Komphela.
Now, with Komphela set to mentor Celtic in the new 2018/19 season, it remains to be seen whether Gordinho will experience the same fate under the 50-year-old head coach.
