Bidvest Wits could strike gold this month by getting one of next season’s new arrivals earlier than expected.
Following their announcement on Thursday afternoon that Black Leopards midfielder Phathutshedzo Nange had signed a pre-contract from Black Leopards beginning July 1, it is now understood that his current club may be tempted to allow him to leave immediately.
Nange started the season as one of the key players for Leopards and featured in almost every match until the departure of coach Joel Masutha, who was fired in November for a string of poor results.
Englishman Dylan Kerr arrived to take over the reins at Lidoda Duvha and has used Nange sparingly – giving him a mere four minutes in the 1-1 draw away to Maritzburg United and 18 minutes when they beat crosstown rivals Baroka FC 2-1 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium last weekend.
Siya sources have indicated that Leopards were caught off guard by the announcement by Wits that Nange had signed a pre-contract and the club is now contemplating letting him leave during this January transfer window, which would also help them offset the wage bill.
He joined three other players who have been confirmed as Wits players for next season in Sinethemba Jantjie (Free State Stars), Brandon Petersen and Prince Nxumalo (both Ajax Cape Town).
