Castro Set For Chiefs Debut?

Leonardo Castro Will Be Itching To Make His Kaizer Chiefs Debut

By Soccer Laduma - Dec 30, 2017 02:09 PM
Kaizer Chiefs’ latest acquisition, Leonard Castro, could be set to make his debut for the Amakhosi in their second game of 2018 when they face Polokwane City.

The 28-year-old was unveiled as a Chiefs player earlier this month following his move from Mamelodi Sundowns, with the Glamour Boys believed to have paid upwards of R2.2m to Masandawana in return for his signature.

Chiefs fans are eager to see how the Colombian will be utilised by Steve Komphela once he has integrated into the side, and have spoken at large about the possibilities of a South American attacking force that will see Castro link up with Gustavo Paez. He left for Colombia earlier this month after being unveiled by his new club, and will return after their clash with SuperSport United.

While the transfer window only opens officially on January 1st, Chiefs having already gotten the deal over the line means that all that remains is for him to obtain a work permit and be registered with the league.

Given the fact that there is still plenty of time between now and Chiefs’ encounter with Polokwane on January 13th – and the fact that he will arrive back early next month – there is reason to believe that his debut could come against Polokwane in the Glamour Boys’ second game back.

The Colombian hasn’t played in an Absa Premiership games since back in mid-October, and it’s been almost two years since he last scored in a league game – his last was against Chiefs in April 2016.

Given their struggles up front this season, Komphela will be hoping to see Castro hit the ground running and work on emulating his form of 2015/16 when he was a lethal part of Sundowns’ CBD.

@Buccaneer 4 lyf, boloyi, Castro visited Paez at his place of residence, he was relaxed, the guy has never been the same since then. I suspect foul play, they might have given him some African ingredients to liken Downs to a baboon which led to a break-down in his relationship with Mighty Downs. Batho ba sethloho ngwaneso.

@Buccaneer 4 lyf, there you go again. Like fau, Bucs will not win anything this season. You know what? I am just waiting for the two old Soweto chairmen (Khoza and Kaizer) to retire, they are an embarrassment to our football.
