Lentjies’ Maritzburg/Chippa Contract Confusion
Kurt Lentjies’ future remains severely up in the air as the chairman of two Absa Premiership clubs claim that he belongs to them.
The 32-year-old has been a key player for Maritzburg United over the past three seasons, playing +26 games ever year, scoring 14 goals for the Team of Choice after rekindling his form in KwaZulu Natal.
However, the former SuperSport United and Bloemfontein Celtic man could well be on his way out of the club before the 2017/18 campaign gets underway, with Chippa United’s Siviwe Mpengesi confirming personally that he has joined the Chilli Boys.
Maritzburg chairman, Farook Kadodia, quickly moved to rubbish that notion though, explaining that the player is still contracted to his club despite Mpengesi’s confirmation.
The Siya crew have done some digging into the situation and been informed that there was a one-year option on Lentjies for next season, one that his current side did exercise in order to keep him in Pietermaritzburg.
As things stand, should Chippa want to continue their pursuit of Lentjies then they will have to go to Kadodia and Maritzburg and discuss transfer terms before anything is decided regarding where he will be next season.
