A Kaizer Chiefs midfielder is currently linked with an exit from Naturena and the Siya crew takes a look at where he could be playing his football in the new season.
It was reported on the Soccer Laduma website yesterday that sources revealed to the crew that talks regarding Keagan Buchanan’s exit from Amakhosi are currently taking place behind the scenes, indicating that a mutual termination of the player’s contract could be a possibility.
Buchanan is believed to have one more year left on his contract with Chiefs, after putting pen to paper with the club in 2016.
The midfielder has seen very little game-time under the mentorship of the former head coach, Steve Komphela, having long fallen out of favour at the club.
Buchanan was linked with an exit from the club in the previous transfer window, however, with his departure from Amakhosi now more likely, the Siya crew takes a look at where the player could end up in the new season, as he won't be short of interested suitors.
Remain at Chiefs:
The club is yet to appoint a new head coach at the helm at Naturena and Buchanan could see a change in his situation regarding game-time, should the new mentor want to utilise his services in the new season.
Cape Town City:
The Cape Town-born midfielder has been linked with a move to the Citizens in the previous transfer window, with sources at the time revealing that Head Coach Benni McCarthy was keeping an eye on the player’s situation.
At the time it was also revealed that the Team Of Choice was looking at bringing the player to the KwaZulu-Natal-based outfit on loan, although nothing materialised for the player at the time. Should the player leave Naturena, Maritzburg could look to revisit their interest in the player.
Return To Bloemfontein Celtic?
Although very unlikely at this point, Buchanan did experience his best playing days with Celtic prior to suffering an injury to his knee.
Mamelodi Sundowns to revisit their interest?
Prior to Buchanan’s move to Chiefs in 2016, the Brazilians were also believed to be interested in bringing Buchanan to the Chloorkop-based club at the time. Should the 26-year-old leave Amakhosi, Sundowns could possibly revisit their interest in the player.
Chiefs are expected to make an announcement about their squad changes in the coming weeks and it remains to be seen whether Buchanan will be moving on from the Soweto giants.
Elsewhere in the PSL:
Although these options seem more likely, other teams in the Premier Soccer League cannot be ruled out as yet, should a club identify the midfielder based on the quality he could bring to the team.
