Kaizer Chiefs are still aiming to announce right back Reeve Frosler as their first signing of the new year, but the Siya crew has been offered an explanation for the delay in the club going public.
As reported by the Siya crew last month, Amakhosi were leading the race for the youth international’s signature and confirmation that Frosler has signed a pre-contract was expected last week.
However, an insider has revealed, Chiefs are still in discussions with Bidvest Wits to allow the player to switch to Naturena for the remainder of the season – at a cut-price. The Amakhosi wouldn’t have to pay anything if they wait for Frosler to only join them in July as a free agent, but given that the defender has been frozen out by Wits coach Gavin Hunt, his soon-to-be club has asked for his early release.
Sources have indicated that Chiefs are also contemplating registering Frosler for the CAF Confederation Cup should they beat ZESCO United of Zambia in the play-offs for a place in the group stages.
Regular right-back Ramahlwe Mphahlele is still out injured, leaving Kgotso Moleko – who has ongoing contract issues of his own at the club – as the only other player for that position this season.
Frosler will need to work on his match fitness, but offers cover and Chiefs are hopeful they can come to an agreement with Wits to take him immediately.
