Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be assessing the possibility of signing a defender from Orlando Pirates in another way of wanting to strengthen their team with experienced and quality players.
Chiefs are currently in search of an experienced left-back to add to coach Giovanni Solinas' squad, following the exits of Tsepo Masilela and Sibusiso Khumalo from Naturena at the end of last season.
With Chiefs having already missed out on Mosa Lebusa after the former Ajax Cape Town player opted to join Mamelodi Sundowns, and with Cape Town City's Edmilson Dove unlikely to be available for a switch to Gauteng in this transfer window, Amakhosi are still in search of a player to strengthen Solinas' squad.
With the exeption of Philani Zulu, Chiefs currently only have the duo of youngsters Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya and Letlhogonolo Mirwa for the left-back role, with the team seeing a need to strengthen with experience going forward.
Chiefs have not signed Mzikayise Mashaba after the former Mamelodi Sundowns player trained with the club.
As reported in edition 1084 of Soccer Laduma, Chiefs have been assessing the possibility of bringing Matlaba to Naturena, according to sources, although it is highly unlikely that any move like that would happen during this transfer window due to the player’s contractual situation.
According to a Siya source in the know, Amakhosi would only be willing to sign Matlaba if they can land him on a free, although it has been indicated that only if the player could manage to negotiate his exit from Bucs will he be able to make a move as he is believed to be still contracted to the club for two more years.
Matlaba's immediate future at Bucs under coach Milutin Sredojevic is seemingly in doubt.
After being initially offered to Chippa United for a loan deal for the 2018/19 season before the deal fell through, the 30-year-old has found the going tough with getting game time at Bucs during the initial stages of the new campaign.
Matlaba has not been in any of Bucs' matchday squads for the team's two matches so far, against Highlands Park and Chippa United respectively.
