Khune’s Season In Doubt?
Kaizer Chiefs' Itumeleng Khune Has An Abdominal Problem
Itumeleng Khune could be in a race to get fit in time for the start of Kaizer Chiefs’ 2018/19 season, with Siya sources suggesting that he could face a spell on the sidelines.
Khune missed the last game of the 2017/18 campaign due to being ‘ill with abdominal pain’, with Brilliant Khuzwayo consequently being given the chance to say goodbye to the Amakhosi faithful prior to the expiration of his contract at the end of next month.
Now, according to Siya sources, Khune and the club are waiting to hear the full diagnosis of his ailment after he was taken to a hospital, but there have been suggestions that he could potentially miss the start of the season for the Glamour Boys.
The Bafana Bafana international was back to his brilliant best with 16 clean sheets this season, an achievement that has seen him nominated as the Absa Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season, and the club’s supporters will be hopeful that his problem is not a serious one.
Chiefs have been linked with SuperSport United shot-stopper, Reyaad Pieterse, as a potential replacement for Khuzwayo following his exit, although they do have two young goalkeepers – Bruce Bvuma and Brylon Petersen - ready to step up if Khune is unavailable and no replacement is signed.
The Siya crew will continue to monitor Khune’s situation, with the club awaiting a complete diagnosis.
