Chiefs’ Yeye Interest Confirmed
SuperSport United’s CEO has confirmed that Kaizer Chiefs were interested in getting Reneilwe Letsholonyane back, however, he remained with Matsatsantsa on deadline day.
The Siya crew reported last month that the midfield veteran had made his way onto the wanted list of both the Amakhosi and Highlands Park, while Maritzburg United’s name was also mentioned as a possibility if he became available.
Speaking to the crew on deadline day, however, Stan Matthews explained that they had opted to keep hold of ‘Yeye’ as they go in search of a top five finish in the Absa Premiership, though confirmed there was interest from elsewhere for the 36-year-old former Amakhosi man.
Matthews said, “We opted to keep his experience at the club after interest from both Highlands Park and Kaizer Chiefs, and the door is open to him for an extended deal if the team delivers at the end of the season.
“A top five finish for us is up for grabs for the first time in five years, and I believe in the group of players that we have to get us there.”
SuperSport are currently seventh in the league table, and just eight points away from leaders, Bidvest Wits, with 36 points still up for grabs.
