Chiefs Defender On His Way Out?
Kaizer Chiefs Defender Faces Uncertain Future
A Kaizer Chiefs defender could be affected by squad changes expected to take place at the club.
Having already signed and sent players out on loan, Chiefs are expected to make more adjustments to the squad before the end of the transfer window.
Defender Sibusiso Khumalo is being strongly linked with an exit from the Soweto giants. The left back, whose professional career has been plagued by injuries throughout, has struggled for game time at Amakhosi.
The 28-year-old is yet to play in any official matches for Chiefs this season, owing to a knee injury he picked while on national team duty with Bafana Bafana in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers in August last year.
The indication is that the former Moroka Swallows, Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United player could be on his way out of Chiefs. In their first match of 2018 against SuperSport United on Saturday, Chiefs opted for newly promoted Siphosake Ntiya-Ntiya to start at left back in the absence of ‘slightly injured’ Philani Zulu.
With Ntiya-Ntiya’s promotion, it is thought that Chiefs have made preparations for offloading one of the experienced left backs, who is believed to be Khumalo.
Chiefs’ other experienced left back Tsepo Masilela missed the majority of the first half of the season, after making only two league starts and one in the MTN8 due to injury.
Khumalo had been linked with a Chiefs exit since September last year already, following reports that the club considered terminating his contract, but has managed to remain in the team until now.
