The Glamour Boys, as things stand, are on course for their lowest league finish in over a decade, and it is thought that club management – and Ernst Middendorp – could ring the change ahead of the 2019/20 season.
Currently, the club has over 20 first team players who have played nine games or less in the Absa Premiership so far this season, and there are plenty who will see their current contracts expire come the end of June.
So who is going to stick around?
Out Of Favour…
There are numerous players such as Bhongolwethu Jayiya, Brylon Petersen and Gustavo Paez who have simply found themselves in a situation where they don’t seem to be in Middendorp’s first team plans as he plays with one eye on the future.
Willard Katsande, meanwhile, could potentially be a big-name exit if things don’t improve for him after he was left out of the squad completely for the club’s last three matches.
Out Of Contract…
We’re now just a few months away from the end of the 2018/19 season, and several Glamour Boys have entered into the last six months of their current deals, leaving them free to open up talks with any other interested parties.
The likes of Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Kgotso Moleko and Hendrick Ekstein find themselves running out of time with regards to their current deals, though all three are believed to be players that the club wants to keep hold of.
The Others…
Chiefs also have players such as Ryan Moon – who has a one-year option – and Virgil Vries who face an uncertain future for other reasons, and though there has been talk of a renewal of Moon’s contract, things aren’t looking good for Vries after the signing of Daniel Akpeyi.
Which Chiefs player do you think should make an exit before the 2019/20 season?
