‘Rama’ hasn’t played for Chiefs since sustaining a knee injury back in September, although has been on the bench for the Amakhosi’s last three league games as he continues to make his way back to full fitness.
Now, with Joseph Molangoane suspended for this weekend’s chance to go top of the table, Mphahlele may be called upon by Steve Komphela to try and stop his old employers from ending Chiefs’ unbeaten run.
Komphela’s other option is Kgotso Moleko, another recent returnee, however, the 28-year-old wasn’t on the bench against Baroka, while Mphahlele was present as a backup to Molangoane if needed.
The Bafana international, 27, will be itching to get back after nearly 160 days without playing, although Komphela will no doubt be cautious about throwing him into the deep end so soon after a lengthy injury layoff.
