Sundowns Foreign Predicament - Brockie To The Rescue

Jeremy Brockie is likely to help Pitso Mosimane make space for his other foreign players, with Siya sources revealing that he is set to be granted permanent residence.

The 30-year-old striker scored his first goal for Mamelodi Sundowns at the weekend as they beat Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 in the Shell Helix Ultra Cup, and will be hoping to start firing for the club as he goes into his first full season with Masandawana.

Brockie made the move from SuperSport United earlier this year after a long transfer saga, and occupied one of Sundowns’ spots in the second half of the 2017/18 campaign following his arrival.

As previously reported by the Siya crew, Brockie – who came to South Africa in 2014 – was thought to be in the process of applying for a PRP to help Mosimane squeeze his foreign players in, and it looks like he will succeed in doing so.

The crew has been informed that Brockie’s application for a PRP has been successful, and that – if all goes to plan – he will be registered as a local rather than a foreigner for the 2018/19 Absa Premiership season.

The Brazilians currently have Toni Silva (Guinea-Bissau), Jose Ali Meza (Venezuela), Ricardo Nascimento (Brazil), Bangaly Soumahoro, Yannick Zakri (both Ivory Coast), Gaston Sirino (Venezuela), Luis Miquissone (Mozambique) and Razak Brimah (Ghana) on their books as foreign players, though have space for just five of them.

Silva, Ali Meza and Sirino are all likely to be registered as part of the foreign quota, as is expected with Nascimento, although the fifth spot is one that a few players could fight over.
