PSL Giants Targeting Wits Star
Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates are just two of the clubs taking aim at Bidvest Wits’ Gerald Phiri, with the Malawian having attracted plenty of attention this season.
Phiri, now 24, was one of the few shining lights in Dikwena’s side as they slumped to relegation from the Absa Premiership, and he is now set to return to his parent club for the start of next season. That is unless something changes.
Alongside Sundowns and Pirates, the Siya crew has also been informed that Free State Stars and Baroka are also keen to bring him on board if, given the opportunity, Dikwena were eager to land him on a permanent basis if they stayed up, but that chance has now disappeared.
The Malawi international, who has been in South Africa since 2016, could qualify to play as a local due to the fact that one of his parents is from Mzansi, something that would no doubt make him even more desirable as he wouldn’t have to be registered as a foreigner.
Phiri scored three and made four assists in the league for Stars in the Absa Premiership this past season, and will be eager to show what he can do when in a team not battling the drop.
