Benni McCarthy is currently assessing a Gambian international described to the Siya crew as a “sensation” who is hoping to cut it in the PSL.
His name is Mattarr Ceesay, a 21-year-old central midfielder with caps for the national team and eager to impress the AmaZulu coach.
Indications are that Ceesay has been in the country for at least a week now and given that he is currently unattached, Usuthu aren’t expected to rush the decision to sign him if McCarthy provides the hierarchy with good feedback.
The Siya crew received confirmation that the player was indeed in Mzansi, though the source only labelled Ceesay as a “sensation”, but nothing more.
McCarthy has made it clear that he will want to beef up the Usuthu team ahead of his first full season with the club having only been appointed in December, but delivered beyond expectation even without having an input on new signings.
Ceesay, if deemed good enough, could very well be a player that could add bite to the AmaZulu side, especially seeing as they will be competing in the CAF Champions League later this year and require a well-balanced squad.
They would have to offload one of their five foreign players to make way for Ceesay, however, given that the league only allows that maximum number per team.
