The future of Nhlanhla ‘Vila’ Vilakazi at AmaZulu has become doubtful as he is nearing the end of his contract.
With the Durban-based club expected to make crucial squad decisions at the end of the season, following what has been a disappointing campaign due to poor results, Vilakazi will be waiting on the decision regarding his contract that is set to expire at the end of the season.
The 34-year-old central midfielder has made only 10 Absa Premiership starts so far this season, going into the last six matches of the campaign with the relegation-threatened Durban-based outfit.
Vilakazi’s representative, Ayanda Sigwili, confirmed that AmaZulu are still to make a decision regarding the player’s future.
“AmaZulu have an option on the player’s contract, and as things are, he is their player until they decide otherwise. He is officially an AmaZulu player – the decision is the club’s one whether they take the option or not,” he said.
Vilakazi was recently suspended by the club, under head coach Jozef Vukusic, though the suspension has since been lifted under caretaker mentor Ayanda Dlamini.
The experienced player has been with Usuthu since 2018, having joined the club from Free State Stars.
