Free State Stars could look to do what they once did with Giovanni Solinas to Ernst Middendorp, according to sources who believe that the Bethlehem outfit has lined up the German coach as one of their targets for the team’s vacant coaching job.
Ea Lla Koto are currently in search of a coach to replace Luc Eymael, who parted ways with the club this week, following the team's disappointing start to the season.
Middendorp, who previously coached Stars between August and December of 2015, is one of the coaches linked with the Bethlehem club.
Stars are known for their trend of sometimes re-hiring coaches who have previously had spells with the club.
In September 2016, Stars re-hired Solinas, who is now the current coach of Kaizer Chiefs, after the Free State club initially parted ways with the Italian coach earlier that year after a spell between December 2015 and May 2016.
With Ea Lla Koto now believed to be keen on luring Middendorp back to the club, there is talk that history could repeat itself, should the side succeed in securing the services of the German mentor.
"Ernst Middendorp is rated highly at Free State Stars. The club would like to have him at the helm again. There is interest," said the source.
Middendorp has been contracted to Bangkok United in Thailand, since leaving Maritzburg United in 2016.
The other coaches who previously had coaching spells with Stars on different occasions include Kinnah Phiri from Malawi, as well as Sammy Troughton, who was in charge at Ea Lla Koto at the start of last season, before being replaced by Eymael after only two matches at the helm.
Several attempts have been made to get a comment from Stars' general manager Rantsi Mokoena or Middendorp regarding the club's coaching situation, however, the Siya crew had been yet get a reply at the time of publishing.
