Eymael Comments On Chiefs Link
Free State Stars coach, Luc Eymael, comments on the link to Kaizer Chiefs.
Luc Eymael is adamant that he has not been contacted by Kaizer Chiefs, despite the links to the club.
It was recently reported by the Siya crew that the Belgian tactician has been earmarked as a potential successor to Steve Komphela, should he leave. Komphela will see his contract with Chiefs expire in June of 2018, and it’s unlikely that it will be extended unless he is able to secure silverware.
Eymael has guided Free State Stars to fourth place in the Absa Premiership log, going into the Christmas break. In their last two games of 2017, Ea Lla Koto registered victories against SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates respectively.
Speaking to the Siya crew, Eymael said he has not officially been contacted by Chiefs for a coaching job at the club.
“I have not been contacted by Kaizer Chiefs. There is a coach there whom I respect a lot and I think he respects me a lot – Steve Komphela. As for what will happen, only God knows. I respect my club (Stars) and they appreciate me a lot here.
“We can never say never but I have not been contacted by Chiefs. I had a journalist calling me the other day at 07h20 in the morning. He woke me and my wife up and said, ‘Congratulations Coach on your new job.’ I said, ‘What are you talking about?’ He said all the newspapers in Uganda are saying I’m the new coach of the Uganda national team. I told him that I have not been in touch with Uganda.
“The first time I was linked with them, it was true before I signed with Free State Stars. I was in touch with Uganda back then, that’s true. Nobody from Uganda has contacted me recently and I don’t know why they are putting my name there.
“I have been contacted by other teams here in the PSL but I will not tell you the names,” said Eymael.
Stars’ first game of 2018 will be against Bidvest Wits at the Bidvest Stadium on January 05.
