Following his unsuccessful stint with Pirates – where he failed to break into the starting line-up after coaching changes, Japhta returned to Stars for the current season.
The attacking midfielder re-joined Ea Lla Koto as a free agent in August, after being given his clearance from Pirates.
However, the 23-year-old has been made to feature only in the MultiChoice Diski Challenge at the Bethlehem outfit. So far this season, Stars head coach Luc Eymael hasn’t yet identified a role for the Botshabelo-born player in his team.
According to sources, the club hasn’t been entirely happy with the player’s fitness levels since his return.
“Sello Japhta has been demoted to the MultiChoice Diski Challenge team at Free State Stars. The club isn’t happy with his fitness levels,” said the source.
Last season, Japhta was loaned to Chippa United for the second half of the campaign, following his struggle for game-time at the Soweto giants.
He will hope to impress Eymael and his technical team with his performances for the MDC side for a chance to get his career back on track and to fulfil its earlier promise.
