Egyptian Star Keen on Mzansi Return, But…

The Siya crew has been informed that there could be a possibility of a return to South Africa for an Egyptian international striker, but his price could be a stumbling block.

Amr Gamal, who was loaned out by Egyptian giants, Al Ahly to Bidvest Wits back in the 2017/18 season, is believed to be linked with a return to the Premier Soccer League.

The 29-year-old arrived in South Africa with a flourishing reputation, due to being in the Egyptian national team and his extensive CAF Champions League experience.

At the time, Wits paid a fee of ±€150k (R3 million) to secure his services from the Egyptian giants.

Gamal made 19 appearances and scored five goals in all competitions for Gavin Hunt’s side during his first stint in Mzansi, wherein he won the Telkom Knockout Cup and was crowned the player of the tournament in the 2017/18 campaign.

Though, a few months later he fell down Gavin Hunt’s pecking order.

However, in 2018, before his loan stint with Wits came to an end, he attracted interest from both Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United with indications that they were assessing the possibility of bringing him on board for the remainder of the 2017/18 season.

But nothing materialised for Gamal in Mzansi and he subsequently secured a loan move to Finnish side, HJK Helsinki in March that same year, before joining up with Egyptian Premier League side, Tala'ea El Gaish.

Now, the Siya crew has been informed by sources in Egypt, that the player would be keen on a move back to Mzansi should the opportunity present itself.

Gamal is still contracted to Al Ahly and it remains to be seen whether any interested suitor in Mzansi would look to pursue his services, either on loan or a permanent transfer, although it wouldn’t come cheap, ruling a host of clubs out of the running.

At the time of his loan expiration, Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United were all said to be keen on bolstering their attacking options with the silky striker.

It remains to be seen if interest from either of the three teams will be rekindled in the near future.
